Hey

I need some help and advice.

I built my Gaming PC about 6 months ago

ASUS P5Q
C2D E7200 @3ghz
4GB ram
ATI Saphire 4870 @ stock with aftermarket cooler
RAID 0
24" Hyundai W240D

I turned it on this morning and it booted in to vista after a few seconds the monitor started to flicker on and off and the PC was really stuttery when i moved the mouse. After a few minutes i decided to hit the reset switch.

It restarted got as far as the Vista logo then the Monitor went into stand by.
(The pc was working fine last night as i was busy getting spanked at COH)
I tryed booting with "Last known good settings" but no joy, i then booted in to safe mode and it worked. so i decided to remove the drivers. (I Uninstalled the display adapter in device manager)

I booted back in to Vista normaly and it worked (was at a stupidly low res) so i uninstaled all the ATI drivers and reinstalled them. When the PC had restarted same issue monitor was on stand by. i tried the same with the latest drivers and the ones on the CD even the ones from windows update same problem every time.

I then desided to format but as soon as i reinstalled the Graphics drivers same problem monitor on stand by :(

Iv tryed both DVI ports on the Graphics card same issue.

I am at a loss with what to do next. The card seems to work as i can use it in safe mode but its not a software problem because i have formated.

Any ideas on what i should do next?:confused::confused:

Thanks all

Sic

rather not flash the bios as if the card is faulty i ran RMA it

as for drivers iv tried the latest the ones on the CD and ones from windows update.

iv uninstalled the Graphics driver and its working now but as stupid low res :( 800x600 on a 24" monitor lol :D

Hate to say it but it sounds more like a hardware issue to me, maybe memory. What you've managed to do so far is have the card working is basic VGA mode, switch to anything higher and it dies. The intermittant display you describe earlier is also indicative of a hardware issue rather than drivers. Try the card in another PC if you can, check all connections to it (i.e, phsically remove it and break/make all power connections).

Yes it worked :)

just reset the card.

would like to stress the card now before i start installing software need some recomendations on graphics card test software 3dmark 05?

Thanks
