Graphics problems on EMpire total war

Just built a system for a friend with an i7 920 @ 4Ghz and a GTX 295, yet hes having issues with Empire total war, he's playing at 1440 x 900 and with all settings on about medium and it's still not 100% smooth, i played it on my machine and found it surprisingly stressful. At first i had overheating issues to the point where i bought a new cooler for my card. i just wonder if its normal of if theres something wrong

I'm on a Q9550 @ 3.4, 8GB Ram and a GTX280 and it bugs out like hell for me. If you're not playing it on steam, make sure you've got all the updated patches.

It seems to be really picky, I can have full battles in North America with full 20 stacks on ultra and it'll run fine, but battles between 6 and 7 stacks in India slow to a slideshow, even on the very lowest settings.

hmmm runs fine on my 2x4870 (512mb), e8400, 8gb pc8500, with everything on highest detail/AA. have you tried updating drivers? possibly try reinstalling the game?

There's a lot of driver issues with ETW I had to go back to 182.50's to get it nice and stable.

q6600 4 gig of ram and a 8800GTX seems to run it solid on high no slow down.
