Graphics Problems

Hey,

My friend recently installed Windows XP again and its been fine for about a week. Now, when he loads his computer as soon as it gets to the desktop the monitor goes really fuzzy to a point where nothing can be seen except colour.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Is it a CRT monitor in which case the problem is most likely the refresh rate.
Does the problem happen in safe mode (F8) if not then it's likely a driver problem

It is a CRT monitor. But how can he change the refresh rate if he cant see whats on screen except colour?

Ok,

On his TFT when loading windows the screen goes black and talks about frequency. When it loads windows it comes back on but the pc is mega laggy.

Set the refresh rate to 60Hz in display properties / advanced / monitor apply and save then reboot with the CRT. Download the latest GFX drivers for his card and install, then report back.
