I have a friend that lives 30 miles away that got a problem with their machine that I can't find a usable solution.

The resolution has been set too high on the graphics so that the monitor doesn't display an image. Every time they try and start it up it say resuming windows then the load screen comes up briefly and then the screen goes blank with 'input signal out of range' or something like that.

I've told them to try pressing F8 on boot to go into safe mode, but that doesn't work. Also to crtl/alr/del when 'resuming windows' message apears but that doesn't work either :(

Has anyone got any other way that I can tell them that will help sort it, bearing in mind they are not that computer literate so thing like going into the bios/recovery mode will be out of the question?

Cheers.

Tap F8 on boot up, select VGA mode/low resolution. Tell your mate they are very silly ;)

Also sounds like the machine is going into and out of sleep or hibernation, fully power it off first

Cheers for the suggestions, in the end I got him to unplug it when booted as to get the boot selection screen on the next boot. Not ideal but it worked.
