Hi all.

My brother just bought a new PS3 today with GTA4. He has a 23" LG RZ23LZ40 LCD TV (non-HD).

The problem is the graphics/screen res doesn't look correct. The text is barely readable and everything looks very jagged, etc.

When we go into display settings in the PS3, you can select 576p but when we do it doesn't seem to be work.

As you can probably tell we don't know much about resolutions, aspect ratios, p, etc. and it's all confusing.

Any help on how to set this up correctly with his TV would be very much appreciated. :)

P.S) Before you start yelling for buying a PS3 without an HD TV - we are in the process of buying one. :)

576i/p is standard PAL resolution, ie the same as normal TV. i means interlaced and p means progressive scan. A lot of TVs don't support progressive scan, so that would explain why it doesn't work. As for aspect ratios, 16:9 is widescreen and 4:3 is standard.

So for your TV you want 576i 16:9.

I got a PS3 on Tuesday and am finding the same thing with my CRT. Really hard to read the phone and the GPS looks a mess when its flashing when you're wanted. It's annoying, but there is little you can do without spending money. As said, a RGB Scart cable will make a noticeable difference, but there's no point if you are buying a HDTV soon anyway.

I've got a HDTV coming next week :p

Thanks for the help everyone.
I will try and pickup an RGB scart cable and see if it makes a difference.

I think I saw your thread dbmzk1 in the other forum section about buying an HDTV.

I am still undecided on whether to get an LCD or Plasma, let alone which size and model! so I will need to do a lot of reading.

Which TV did you decide to go for in the end? The Panasonic PX80 seems to get great reviews from users.
