Graphics tablets for photo editing

Does anyone here use graphics tablets for photo editing? If so, does it really make a big difference?

Apparently they're like marmite.. you either love them or hate them. And just like marmite, im in the latter camp. Ive got one, but after trying it for a few weeks it got put in the cupboard and hasn't been brought out since. A few people I know swear by them though. If you do decide to get one; Get a Wacom one. They are far and above the competition. :)

I love my Wacom but don't use it for photo retouching, I haven't got enogh control so just use it for sketching.

If you can get the hang of it then I'm sure it would be pretty good for it.

I bought a Wacom tablet some time ago. Really nice tablet but I just couldn't use it as well as I'd hoped. It's not shoved in the cupboard or anything however it does not get used :(

That said now the thought is in my head, I might give it another go. A friend of mine has given me a demo of how it should be used and it looked good in the hands of someone who is used to it. I was very impressed the way it worked in Painter.

Maybe try before you buy if you can.

I have one, really recommend them, but as said Wacom are the best by far.

For photo retouching a big pad (A4Oversize or A3) is good and for sketching /drawing I believe people tend to go for A5 or smaller.

I much prefer the larger pads, and especially on a high res screen you need the extra pad area for accuracy.

The best thing is pressure sensitivity and tilt if you pad supports it.
