Ok I am running the old school non 216 core GTX 260 and its starting to pull me down.

Games I am playing

Aion(believe me this one shocked me in terms of graphics dependancy, i get pulled down to 20-30 FPS in crowds, mass PVP 5-15 fps)
Cod:MW2
LFD/LFD2

I only run at 1680x1050

So was wondering which combination would work best.

single 5850
xfire 5850
single 5870
xfire 5870
5970

Now I am thinking at 1680x1050 crossfire might be overkill.

However in future I might consider an eyefinity setup.

Now I am thinking if im even considering it should I get a 5870 then if I decide to go for it get another one? or go for the 5970. Or would a 5850 be plenty then just crossfire that in future.

A good option would be to Xfire 2xHD5770 this way you'll be between HD5850 and HD5870.For that rez 2xHd5770 would do just fine.
 
I probably wouldn't go for that option because if I decide to go for an eyefinity setup in future they wouldn't be able to handle the resolution I imagine.
 
well if you say 5850 won't be enough, looking at probably getting a 5870 then, a single will be enough for my current setup, and if i decide to start going for eyefinity ill get another.
 
A 5870 would be massive overkill for 1680x1050 but future proof your rig for a good while and offer eyefinity configurations should you go for 2 more 22" monitors.

Usually I wouldn't recommend a 5870 for anyone under 1920x1200.
 
Since there's this thread I hope the OP doesn't mind if I post my dilemma.

2x 24" samsung 2443BW monitors (1920x1200 res)

I am currently running with a 512 mb ati 3870 loaned by a friend.

I want a new graphics card but everything is out of stock...

I originally was going for a 5870 and maybe get another one for xfire later but now the 5970 has been launched...

Which one should I get according to my specs? (I won't overclock for now). Probably whichever I get it will be in january/february... what about prices in those months?

well i went ahead and put myself down for the pre-order on the sapphire 5870, now im with a lot of u guys in the queue wish me luck in getting one before xmas :/
 
HDTV resolution is rubbish compared, iv got 1080p on a 46" tele and even with AA on id love to have a nicer resolution, also in the games the effect of the side screens looks much better than my tele, they seem to give a much higher sense of speed and depth. bah want 2 more monitors....
