I'm currently running a 5770 and its starting to show its age in show games and I'm having to drop settings down to medium in order to get semi decent FPS. So I've decided its time for an upgrade, but I'm unsure what to go for.

I was thinking of going for 6950/6970 setup, but then I've been reading quite a bit about 5850 CF setups which out perform the newer cards at these lower resolutions. The 5850's also have the benefit of being old enough that they can be picked up second hand as well, saving me some money.

I play at 1920x1080 on a single screen at the moment, so I want the best performance for this setup. Budget is around £200 but can stretch it a bit if needed. Any recommendations ?

Also I'm being a total idiot, I'm not running at that res at all that was for a different monitor. I'm actually running at 1920x1080. I'll update the OP :D

lol, you were having a 'senior' moment....

Single card of my choice would be 6950 rev1 (flashable) if they are still available.

5850 CF beats a single 580 and is an awful lot of horsepower for the buck. Only downside I can see, its old tech and there isn't an upgrade path from it but those reasons certainly aren't show stoppers!

You pays your money, you takes your chances! :D

I was leaning towards the 5850 CF solution, but as -=Vect0r=- said, there is no way to upgrade apart from spending lots of money. Not sure how much of a performance impact it will have, but my motherboard only does 8x/8x PCIe when using 2 graphics card but will do 16x when only using one.

Why do they make this so confusing! :D

Think I'm leaning towards a 6950 now, mainly because I'm not sure how much of a performance hit I'll take with having the PCI slots running at 8x rather than 16x.

I was leaning towards the 6950 so that I can upgrade it in the future, but the differences between them in CF and the 5850 in CF doesn't seem huge and I'm not sure its worth the extra cash.

Being able to pick up 5850's second hand is also a big win
