Ok got a problem relating to my whole system i believe, but specifically my connect 3d x1900xtx 512mb.

Heres my Spec:

Asus A8N Sli Deluxe
A64 3200 Winchester @ 2.5 / 2.6 ghz (Water cooled) (10 x 250)
2 x 1gb Corsair XMS 4000 / DDR 500
Connect 3D X1900XTX 512mb (Stock cooling)
Antec Neopower 480w
Windows XP Home SP2

The problem is that when i have my cpu clocked at 2.6ghz, i get VPU errors from Catalyst Control Centre and general crashes in game, eg the game will close without windows saying it has to close it.

When i have my cpu clocked at 2.5ghz i never have problems. At 2.55ghz i do not get vpu errors and pretty much no crashes. However when i start to up the clock speed i get errors.

Now im not sure whether the problem is with general system instability, powersupply, cpu or graphics card.

Before i had the X1900XTX, i was using an XFX 6800GT clocked at 455 / 1200 with my cpu at 2.6ghz with no problems what so ever.

When i was on my first 1900xtx when cpu was clocked at 2.6ghz world of warcraft would constatly crash every 5 or 10 mins with a vpu error, a lot of the time causing the whole pc to freeze up. my xtx eventually developed memory problems, got rma'd and on my second card.

Im trying to find out what the problem is. I suspect its not general instability as i used to run at 2.6ghz all the time with my 6800gt, ran at that speed for a good 7 months without any problems. I thought it could be powersupply, however im not sure that would cause ccc to give a vpu error. I suspected it might be that the ram doesnt like running at 520mhz however its only a 20mhz overclock.

Anyone got any ideas whats the problem.

Now the cpu advice bit, if my problem isnt related to power supply i want to upgrade my cpu as im being bottlenecked by my graphics card. Im looking at getting some sort of A64 939 X2. Will these still be around in january time? Im looking for best value for money really, one thats a good clocker as il be watercooling it and wanting to overclock.

Will my powersupply be able to cope with the following:

Asus A8N Sli deluxe, A64 X2, 2 x 1gb Corsair XMS DDR500, X1900XTX at stock, 2 x SATA Segate Hard drives in raid 0, pump for watercooling, one or two led's / cathodes, 2 x led 120mm fans, 2 x coolermaster stacker 120mm fans, wireless network card, dvd drive, dvd rw drive, floppy drive

Have you tried slacking off on the ram timmings just to see if they are too tight for the overclock?

bump, any other ideas?

ive clocked cpu to 2600, but put a divided on so ram is running 434mhz i think, under the rated speed. if it still crashes etc its the ram, if not then im not sure. that leaves cpu, powersupply or graphics card left.

Right well ive done what i said in the previous post. played oblivion for about an hour and a half, no crashes yet which seems to be good. Hoping the ram was running to fast :)
