hi guys,

being new to live and the xbox i have been playing a few games (mostly GRAW) on live. however i have noticed that i get disconnected from servers a lot. why is this? am i getting kicked by the host?

is there something i can do to make my connection better or more stable?

i have 8mb broadband so it should be ok...

GRAW needs a good upload speed from whoever is hosting, otherwise players will drop.

Also it depends on the gametype... Campaign with all the AI uses more bandwidth than say just team or single multiplayer modes.

If the host say just has ADSL with 256k upload then it'll only support 2-3 players in campaign and a handful more in other modes. With around 500k upload or so you'll get 6 players in campaign and no problems with other modes.

So it's all down to what connection the host has.

I was reading on a website yesterday that there are fixes for the "stability and gameplay updates" included in the free update that is coming soon with the extra achievments.

Hopefully this will imprive the online aspect.

I have 8148/448 ADSL so I don't know how goo dmy connection would be for hosting, I have had issues when I connect to random games, where I end up disconnecting, whcih usually means the hoster has allowed too many people to join considering his upload bandwidth.

Spot on.

A lot of people host games and never take this into consideration. They fire it up, select a huge map with 16 players and expect it play all hunky dory on a 2MB connection. Game starts and then half the people get disconnected.

Thats why when I search for games, I enter the search field to find games with a minimum of 4 and maximum of around 10. Majority of the times I get a nice stable game.

I'd like to see an option in all 360 games that can host on Live where a simple in game test determines your network connection and the maximum number of people you can host in a game. Either that, or the search screen displaying what speed connection the host has, so you can decide for yourself if joining a 16 man game on a 2MB connection is a good idea.

Our host takes all of that into consideration all the time ;)

Halo 2 actually did do some latency tests in Clan matches (well for the large ones anyway) and would not let you host unless you had a sufficent BB connection

hmmm how do i search for specific games, with set players etc etc? i always end up getting put into the first game it finds. why cant i get a choice?

Use the Player Match or Ranked Match options instead of the Quick Match.

"Sorry I'm late I over slept. I was up all night talking to some guy in a game" ;)

We started about 11:30 and finished now I can't even remember what we started talking about in the first place then It went from one thing to another at random.

Krono was hitting on you wasn't he. I thought leaving you alone with him would be a bad idea.
