Great experience with apple

It will more than likely be a refurb.

What do you have against the refurbs? Not all of them are perfect but they're probably not going to be any worse than the device you're handing in, even in the best condition. Most of them are close to new condition, and they often get new batteries, enclosures etc. That said, tried a complete reset (or even just a reset for settings) in order to see if that cures the battery life issue?

Over at macrumors ive heard so many horror stories and one person claiming to know the owner of a shop who admits they send off the phones that are handed in for a clean and are sent back in the white boxes.
Fingerprints left, data left etc.

Not entirely convinced to be honest. The worst that I've noticed is that if you get a refurb and reject it straight away, it will probably just cycle back through the refurb system (without any changes). Noticed this with the iPhone 5 swaps due to dents when they came out - all of them I believe had been opened before, and all were covered in dents.

For the most part, the refurb devices have been properly worked over, and worst case scenario, once you've had two (IIRC) replacements, you can request a CRU replacement, where you get a brand new boxed unit with a new warranty. Going through the shop takes two weeks (frankly ridiculous), whereas going through AppleCare over the phone will take the same amount of time as any other delivered replacement (no more than a couple of days).

Maybe the latter half of your post is correct with certain stores. When I was trying to get my iPhone 5, I saw people at the till basically stacked with white boxed iphones all dented and no one was allowed to get new boxed units. However, people on the forum did say that some stores didnt bother with the white boxed units as so many came to return theirs. This was when the phone first came out though and practically all the phones were dinged up.
Anyway, its all off topic so lets leave it at that ay?

Wouldn't say it's off-topic really, just another perspective :) Yeah, they aren't allowed to give new boxed units out as replacements under most circumstances as they're classified as separate stock, hence the CRU system (even though they're exactly the same). Think the issue with the iPhone 5 wasn't the customer service, more the phones themselves!

Thumbs up from me, nice fella in the Bromley store replaced my Iphone 5 today due to a confirmed faulty battery and intermittent 3G issues, which we were unable to replicate in store, but he took my word for it :)

My iPhone 5 was replaced a couple of weeks ago, swapped a launch week one for a (probable) refurb in a white box, which was in absolutely perfect condition. Seems less susceptible to chipping as well.

I have no issues getting a refurb unit to be honest, maybe if it was brand new and broke then fair enough, but not after 10+ months.
