What do you have against the refurbs? Not all of them are perfect but they're probably not going to be any worse than the device you're handing in, even in the best condition. Most of them are close to new condition, and they often get new batteries, enclosures etc. That said, tried a complete reset (or even just a reset for settings) in order to see if that cures the battery life issue?

Yeah, they aren't allowed to give new boxed units out as replacements under most circumstances as they're classified as separate stock, hence the CRU system (even though they're exactly the same). Think the issue with the iPhone 5 wasn't the customer service, more the phones themselves!
