Hello, im posting for one of my clan mates that has just got a new graphics card and is having a little trouble on css, his specs are

antec 650 watt psu
2 gigs ram
AMD phenom 9500 2.2ghz
9800gt 512mb DDR3

He gets around 50fps in css, he has it maxed but when he lowers te seetings he gets lower fps :/

any ideas? he gets 90fps in cod4 maxed out on a 19" widescreen

Uninstall and re-install latest drivers. Check v sync isnt on, force v sync off in nvidia control panel.
Also as above edit the console in game to make sure max fps isnt set low

COD4 is a GPU intensive game where as CS:S is mostly a CPU dependent game. This is evident as applying AA and AF to max setting the frame rate doesn't take a hit.

The only way to increase the frame rate would be to OC his CPU.

Once i check that its not anything else, or even a bad graphics card then maybe consider that.

I dont think he needs to overclock since i have a better system than him and a lower processor and i get atleast 100fps in css :/

Your CPU is at 2.1 ghzz stock, his is at 2.2 stock. The GPU does very little work whilst playing CS:S, mine uses little over 20% of the ATI 4870 that I had.

What resolution do you and your friend play at?

*Also, CS:S doesn't have multi core rendering, only one core is being use. So the higher the clock speed the better.*
