Usual sketch here, been out of the loop with computers for a while. My insatiable appetite for CS has pulled me back to PC gaming, so jumping in and going to knock up my first self built rig.

Did a wee bit of research on other spec me threads so knocked this together, I would just like the thumbs up from the knowledgable posters that everything ive picked is compatible etc, or if there are any small changes which the build would benefit from.

Asus Z97-K - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle **£14 Saving** £275.58

Sapphire Radeon R9 Nitro 380 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £179.99

EVGA Supernova GS 550W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £64.99

Crucial BX100 120GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive £44.99

Kingston HyperX Beast 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit £44.99

Toshiba (7K1000.D) 1TB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache HDD - OEM £35.99

BitFenix Neos ATX Tower Black/Black Window £28.99

Microsoft Windows 10 32/64-Bit - USB Pen Drive - Retail (KW9-00017) - £85.99

Corsair Gaming CG-H1500, Dolby 7.1 USB Headset £57.95

Zowie EC1-A High Performance Gaming Mouse - £44.99

Roccat Arvo Compact Gaming Keyboard - £39.95

Total £909.40

I appreciate this is overkill for CS, but thats the main game I will play, as well as the newer games.

Any help/guidance will be appreciated.

Cheers

That SSD is too small. Go for a 250 GB or 500 GB SSD - if the latter you can drop the HDD.

You should get yourself a USB 3 external HDD for backing up.

Do you already have things like SATA cables and ethernet cables?

Ok, i'll certainly upgrade the SSD to a larger capacity. With regards to the SATA cables, i'm starting a fresh entirely, other than a monitor which I have. There are certain things i'll change over time, probably add a heatsink etc, just looking to get the expensive main components now and get it up and running.

Swapped out the SSD for this;

Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive £79.99

I would spend a bit more on a better case with good cable management, don't get me wrong the bitfenix neo's are really nice cases used two for builds for my kids but they are not the easiest to cable manage and are very basic.

If you going to spend this much up the budget on the case would be my suggestion the rest looks pretty decent.

Yea, id agree thats a reasonable area to spend a bit more on. I was thinking of upgrading the case itself a bit down the line and get better fans and configuration, but I may as well have a better case now to save rebuilding everything once I decide to change it. Are there any of the top of your head that you would recommend I look into? I appreciate that choosing a case is down to preference, but if I've got a few that I know have good cable management and layout that'll help. Cheers.

Cool, thanks for the input. I'm looking for something quite plain looking and preferably midi sized. I'll do some research later and post what I find in the hope you guys have either used them yourselves, or heard good things about them.

Most cases are fine with 50cm sata cables. But if in doubt you can either get longer ones or just buy them after you have the case in hand to take measurements of.

So long as it's < 50cm you'll be fine.

I'd like one with a window, and the red of the NZXT will work as all of my components are black. I really like that NZXT so i'll go with that, thanks Dazza. Im slightly confused by the sata cable situation, do I require them to get going or are just superior cables to the ones provided with the drives? For the cost of them, if its the latter I may as well get them when I make this order (later tonight hopefully!)

Thanks

The phantek does have a window version as well, you could also look at the nzxt 440 also, good case and has the colour options. You don't need them to get going the motherboard will come with 4-6 cables in the box usually, those are potentially better but I have never had any issues with the ones included with the MB.

I like the look of the NZXT so I'll give that a bash. I'll avoid the sata cables for now until I add a cooler and new fans etc. Cheers for the help :)

Had a wee delay with ordering but just confirmed it. Thanks for the input. I'm almost certain there will be hiccups with the build but good to know there's a good forum with expert builders on hand!

You don't need to buy SATA cables, they come with the motherboard, you'll get 3-4 in the box.

The NZXT Source cases are very nice, feel a little cheap at first but do pack some decent features in for the price.
