Green pixel artifacts in 2D with HD4870

Hey guys,

Just woke my monitor up and I was greated by a load of mostly green (some red) pixel artifacts all over my monitor. They seem to appear in little blocks of about 4x5 pixels wide and become more numerous when the image on screen is moving eg. when scrolling a wbe page. Here's a quick photo:

EDIT: Did a quick test and they're much more abundant on dark backgrounds - loads on the dark blue of the OCUK forums but on a mostly white webpage there are far fewer and they appear red instead.

I've just tried the HDMI input on my monitor with my console and everything looks fine so I'm thinking its a graphics card issue (Radeon HD4870) I suppose I should also check it's not the DVI input it's using and maybe try a different cable if I can get hold of one, could it be the GPU slot? Any other suggestions or is this going to be a replacement job?

If so what's the most economical replacement for a 4870 that's used primarily for work (autocad/some adobe stuff) on a X38 w/ Q6600?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Regards

MA

Probably faulty ram on the card, I had this problem years ago with a Nvidia 7900GT. Does this also happen within the BIOS/boot screens?

May be a perfect time and excuse to upgrade your card! :)
