Sorry, noticed i got beaten to it. Leaving my post here anyway!
It's all about the CPR. Conditonal Pixel Regeneration. (Har)
All the above methods are supposed to help. Sometimes though you get a pixel that has a problem with the electronics, not the liquid crystal.
Sometimes manufacturers change the wording of the warranty so you can get a replacement if the dead/misbehaving pixel is in an annoying place, like right in the middle of the screen.
If it's off to the side or bottom, then there's less chance you'll notice it during normal use. I know that once you've seen it for the first time, you'll always be checking for it...
Other thing you can do is get a soft cloth or something, hold it over the affected spot, then prod the dead pixel quite hard with your finger. As long as you don't go too hard, the cloth will protect against any direct damage, and hopefully revive the pixel. Again this one is about getting the liquid crystal to respond to the area, especially if its not getting to that one pixel.
unfortunately, all methods of trying to bring a misbehaving pixel back can aggrivate it and change it from a half dead pixel, to a completely dead one. Often your best choice is to leave it be. Sometimes they'll fix themselves over time!
