*trying* to watch this film but I can't - the main character (not Elijah Wood) has the most fakey cockerney accent since Dick Van Dyke - it is *really* irritating because it keeps slipping - awful :o

Some of the scenes are just *wrong* too - near the beginning of the film they're in what's supposed to be a proper East End boozer, and they're drinking lager out of pitchers (I think not!) and then they're brought a tray of shorts, vodka I think, in shot glasses - noooooo!

What a waste of a Saturday morning - it's going in the bin!

Did you watch all of it? Sounds like you're judging it on one dodgy accent and the type of glasses they're drinking from. Was there any merit in the acting? Plot, direction, editing, soundtrack etc.? I haven't seen it but it's on my DVD rental list.

I thought it was a good film actually. A bit cheesy in places.

I think the main character's problem, is that the film was going to be aired in the USA; having E Wood of course it was.

When Snatch, Lockstock and Layer Cake were sent out there so many people complained they couldn't understand cockney, to the point that they just walked out. When they re-released it with subtitles people didn't bother going back to see it. (My sister's husband, a born and bred American being one example).

Thus, I think to avoid the same mistake again I presume they paid careful attention to his accent and got him to retake using weaker accented words where appropriate. I think that's why occasionally he comes out with a more middle class tone.

i thought it was crap... really really crap... and football factory was MUCH better

the nth time they explain what cockney rhyming slang was did it for me i think. americanised rubbish... total total rubbish.

i really enjoyed it. it reminded me of how cool football hooliganism is. the main bloke's accent got on my nerves, but i thought Mr. Wood was very good in it. makes a change to see him as not a big wet boy through an entire film

My thoughts exactly. Besides the awful mockney accent, the rest of the film was pretty dire too. Football Factory was much less polished, and gritty as a film of this nature should be.

Yeah Football Factory was actually good - really authentic and believable - Green St gets worse. Just noticed that they're getting a train to Manchester from.... Paddington - duh! Oh, and the big man's right hand man is a navigator in the RAF - double duh! He'd last in a firm all of 10 seconds

And the Elijah Wood voiceovers - bleurrrrrggggh!

And the wierd country and western song during the main fight scene at the end - what?????

What a load of old tripe

i thought it was called hooligans?

I've got Hooligans in front of me and it isn't Green Street.
Hooligans is a 1hr french documentary to do with different firms and about 15 minutes of it is with Stoke City's Naughty 40.

Just seen that the American version of Green Street is called Hooligans

It's not in the same league as Football Factory, ID or The Firm and having the lead Cockney played by someone from the North East just doesn't work and Wood isn't that impressive to me either, he looks as intimidating as Stephen Hawking.

All that said, it's still worth a watch, there are far worse films out there.

I liked it, probably just as much as football factory, neither were amazing, but both entertained me, seen them a few times each. ID is better than both, The Firm is pretty good too.

The lead guys mockney accent was lame, he was way to clean cut and public schoolboy for the part. The vast majority of the rest were quite well cast I thought.
