Has anyone ever been insured with these? What are they like?

They've just given me a very competative quote (£150 cheaper than Direct Line, who were cheapest for me).

But I would like to hear from anyone who has dealt with them, what they're like when claiming, or just generally what they're like to deal with.

Thanks

They're awesome for heavily modified cars. All mods declared for my 230+ bhp MX5 came in at around £400 FC. Can't beat that really - and their service is top notch.

Excluded vehicles

* BMW M3 (E36) model - (E30/E46 derivatives are still acceptable)
* Citroen Saxo models
* Ford Sierra RS500 model
* Honda S2000, Integra DC2 & DC5 imports (UK DC2's are acceptable)
* Imported Subaru models (UK Models are acceptable)
* Lotus Elise/Exige
* Mitsubishi Lancer Evo (All)
* Nissan 200SX models (All)
* Porsche (except Boxster)
* Renault Clio 172 “Cup” (non-ABS) model - (All other 172 derivatives are acceptable)
* Skoda Fabia/Octavia models
* TVR (all models)
* Vauxhall VX220 Turbo
* LHD vehicles (except Golf Rallye and Lancia Delta)
* Vehicles not listed by The Association Of British Insurers (ABI)

The above have been excluded based upon our historic claims performance with the specific models listed above - Most other Performance model vehicles are currently acceptable.

Interesting... wonder if other company's go by this list and hike the price up on them?

They post on CTRO (Civic Type-R owners) a lot. Basically they stay competitive (especially mod wise) by eliminating the higher risk vehicles they have made a huge loss on. They do not allow CTR owners under 25 due to it being the thieves favorite and now it's quite accessible in price a lot of idiots are writing them off. I'd call them a specialist insurer, very friendly but I cannot go with them due to being 22 :(

anybody know if you have to have a heavily modified car

Im 25 with a driving ban and a fault claim, ive got a quote for £1100 from sainsburys (was well impressed with that) for a Grp 16 ST220

wondering if they'd insure me on a stock ST220.

Hmmm cheers all sounds good. They've quoted me £490 with exhaust declared, Direct line wanted £640 and they were cheapest by about £40 (although you can't declare mods online, so I hadn't).

My current insurer Admiral want £720 with Exhaust declared via an online quote, but I've not had my renewal through yet. Greenlight sound faviourite so far then...

I don't think you need a modified car, just hot hatch or modified car. Give them a call to check

I used them a couple of years ago, cannot fault them. Although nothing went wrong so after accepting the quote I had no contact with them :p

They're underwritten by Highway which do have a bad rep but that's just when claiming under dodgy circumstances (declaing etc).

Edit - And no you don't need a modified car. Mines completely stock. Fill in the online form, there's options for types of cars etc.

Got some very competitive quotes from them, but I done too many quotes and now their underwriter wont allow me to do anymore so couldnt get insured with them? WTF?

No you dont, they quoted me on a standard E46 M3 and it was the best quote id had from anywhere by quite a distance as well.

They wont insure cars over 25K, and their trackday insurance excludes certain tracks due to the number of claims. Other than that, they are one of the cheapest insurers for modified cars and I've had no problems with them in the last few years.

Insured with them last year on my heavily modified Volvo. They offered like for like replacement on modifications which is excellent. They weren't as competitive this year so I've switched elsewhere, and I must admit I am having trouble getting proof of my no claims from Greenlight. They have promised to send it but it's still not arrived weeks later!
