I think it's a classic case of right guy, wrong era. But this quote made me LOL.

He was clearly trying too hard.

"People can see if you're black and if they don't like black people because they are filthy racists, they can abuse you anonymously online," he said.

The reference to the call centre staff had nothing to do with whether they were British, it was his view that South Asians "have different career interests". As if it's an inherent characteristic of a South Asian person.
