Any one have why this big chunk of the south is grey? I can't think of anything that it could be representing.

Thats is what we had thought, but were confused as to why it would be grey. Most other national parks seem to be green.

It looks like some sort of animal has landed on that area and left its imprint as well as total destruction.

It could be grey because the South Downs is not yet a fully fledged National Park, there's still some approvals and signatures required I think.

Andi.

Edit: Ah! looks like it went to full status in 2011 so I suspect Google haven't caught up yet.

Bizarrely, I was looking at the same section of map earlier. The question I asked myself was, why is the cricket club visible from such a zoomed out view?

It's a conspiracy by the government and the mainstream media. How convenient that a national park is apparently amongst a huge grey area.

the south downs national park used to be green. For some reason it has changed to grey a couple of weeks ago maybe. Not entirely sure why. They have recently changed all the road colours which I find annoying so could be related.. It's not the first time I've noticed national parks doing funny things, the new forest also disappeared for a while a couple of months ago...

They do seem to pick out fairly random place names when zoomed out. I've seen a zoomed out UK with London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool ... and Tilehurst (a minor suburb of Reading). Also left Norfolk and surrounding area as an empty wasteland ... so not all bad ;p

I don't know if everyone gets the same - guess so since I see the cricket club, but the amusing one I get is "Town centre" somewhere around the midlands when the whole country is in view.. looks like telford town centre... :s

I also wondered if the national park was going to become a large industrial estate as they tend to be grey.
