Grey dot behind monitor.

I've just noticed what appear to be around 13 grey pixels near the bottom of my Asus PB287Q 4K monitor. I thought they were dead pixels at first but they appear to be a fair distance behind the actual image on the screen. I've attached a picture to try and show what I mean. Sorry for the quality, it's hard to get a good picture using a phone through a child's magnifying glass.

The left picture is from a very slight angle to the left, the middle is straight on, and the right is a slight angle to the right. The mouse hasn't moved in each picture. It doesn't appear to be on the same surface as the pixels.

What is it? Are they dead pixels that I could get an RMA for, or is it an insect or dirt inside the monitor that I'd have to remove myself?

I had similar on my phone, a screw or something sharp pushed and damaged the display, they replaced it.
If it's permanent (can you see it in BIOS/UEFI ?) I think it's a panel defect.

Best thing to do is ask the people you bought it from. if its a defect then your owed a replacement atleast..

it is only a tiny speck though so you could just ignore it?
though i understand if you cant because it would bug the hell out of my every time i noticed it lol

Thanks for the replies. I contacted Asus and they suggested I send it to them for a replacement, but didn't guess at what caused it.

Be prepared that the replacement will probably be a repaired monitor which may be in worse condition than the one you have now.

If the images are actually indicative of the real life situation, and the grey smudge is the only thing that's wrong with the monitor, then I would strongly suggest that you keep the monitor. Especially when the smudge is on the BOTTOM. If it were on the center, then I would probably return it.

In recent years so many monitors are riddled with all kinds of flaws, so you only getting such a small grievance seems like a jackpot.

Then again, considering that you've made a thread about it, it must disturb you somewhat. So maybe you'd be better off returning it, after all. But like Deleted member 2277 said, you might get back a unit that is in even worse condition.

I agree with this when I got my monitor it had some backlight bleed but only in the bottom right corner mostly which isn't where I could really see it. QC on monitors atm is atrocious.

Totally agree with you on monitor QC, only 1 of my 4 monitors purchased in the last few years hasn't had dead pixels.

I does bother me when I spent this much on a monitor. I think it is probably more noticeable than it seems in those out of focus pictures. My concern is that as I don't know what's caused the problem it may get worse after the warranty has run out.

Thanks for the warnings about problems with replacements. Because of this I think I'll try and return the item through Overclockers rather than Asus, so that it is covered by the European Consumer Rights Act and not just Asus terms and conditions, which should give more protection if the replacement comes back with another defect.
