Has anyone here ever been to Greyhound racing? More specifically at the track in Sunderland, but I'm assuming the experience is pretty much the same anywhere. What's it like? Is it busy? What kind of people go etc? I've never been before but there's a chance I might be in the near future, just want some information really.

I use to work at the *Nottingham* Greyhound stadium. Drunken people go lol. Depends what day you go whether its really busy or not. All in all, its a right laugh.

Been a few times to the one near me in Great Yarmouth, mostly on lads nite outs. Good laugh and the betting isn't complicated and doesn't need to cost you a fortune. (The last time I went I got whooped in the betting stakes by my gran who went home £80 up!) :/

The rabbit always wins. It's a bit unfair really.

I remember my first day there, the rabbit was bright orange, and i have the job of covering the rabbit at the end with a big black box to stop the dogs ripping it to shreds, and the lads told me because i was on the other end of the field, i had to wear a certain hat, so i wore it, and i crouched down to cover the rabbit, got it covered, the next thing i know is the dogs are running directly at me....got knocked down by 3 of the little gits....never wore the bright orange hat every again LOL

Been to Peterborough dogs. Its a good laugh, a lot more informal than the horses. Go with a group of mates and get ratted, the dogs are more of a sideshow IMO.

I go to the horses to try and make a bit of cash (and have a nice day out), I'd go to the dogs to have a good time with friends. There's the distinction I think.

Used to go years ago for a night out, you can take your women get a table & have a great night out. Straight forecasts all night for a small bet on every race adds to the fun.
Or you can have a lads night out with the beer at track side. Either way it's Top.

As in will you get a clear favourite and rank outsiders, or do they all stand a decent chance of winning and it's more 'just pick one!' than studying form etc?

You can get form guides just like the horses, and as far as I can remember there's different classes etc. I remember betting on an absolute cert but the track was wet and although he steamed into a lead on the opening straight, he stood in some standing water and took out the whole head pack, leaving a 33-1 lame shot to beat the only other dog still left in it :(

Excellent, it sounds pretty fun, I might have to accelerate this plan to go now! Haven't had a good night out in too long!

There is usually a few good dogs in the race & one clear favourite, check the recent races of each dog to see how they have been running recently. Betting on one dog is crap as the odds are never good unless 5 go down & the donkey finishes. With a S/F bet you stick a quid or so on & name 1st & 2nd, you pay no tax on a S/F bet & if it comes in you get a good pay out. You can S/F all night & have only one come in & still break even, If you have two or more then the night is payed for. If you lose the lot at a quid a race you are down 20 quid, I think that's nowt & as you enjoyed & bet on 20 races the fun factor is cheap for 20 quid. The booze & food & socialising just adds to it all.

The dogs is the horses for drunken chavs. Imagine going to the nastiest pub in town to get drunk while some dogs run around outside and you'll pretty much have it down.

Cool, I've only been once and it was at the Nottingham track.

When betting on the second race I was looking at the programme and picked the dog I liked (trap 1 I think) and put a tenner on it, a couple of minutes later the dog came in and I won a decent amount of cash. I looked at the programme again and realised that I was infact looking at the wrong page and had bet on race 6 instead of race 2:p

my wife did that and won too....was kinda flukey lol...

The track in Sunderland is quite nice, I must've been about 15-20 times over the years....upstairs is the posher bit, where you get the sort of people that you'd generally see on a night out round Sunderland.

Downstairs is full of the great unwashed, professional gamblers etc

If the weather is ok I prefer to go trackside.

Bit of a lottery the dogs, generally I bet a reverse forecast on the 2 favourites, I can't remember the last time I didn't at least break even

Most of the times I've been have been around Christmas time and it's been really busy, can't see Jan/Feb being the same though should be a decent amount of people

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but it looks like I'm going on Friday night, so I just wanted to ask how you place either a straight forecast, or a reversed forecast bet at the dogs? Purely to save embarrassment on the night really! Do you have to write it a certain way? I don't want to get laughed out of the ground.
