Just looking for split screen racing games to play with my 4 year old son. Wanting to set a precident for sticking to age ratings before he starts asking for GTA VI in a couple of years. I've been playing Trackmania2 stadium with him but it's got a few nasty bugs, including not being able to remap the controls for splitscreen and to be honest, I'm getting a bit bored of playing with him as the only opponent.

I was interested in Grid 2. The game's website has it as PEGI 3
http://www.gridgame.com/en-gb#home. A few online retail places show it as PEGI 7. I think this was a provisional rating and it was given PEGI 3 on release. Can anyone confirm this?

Anyone that's played it want to comment on suitability for a 4 year old that can just about handle Trackmania2 on 1 vs 1 split screen? At the moment I let him win a fair bit of the time ;) but I think it might be nice to have a few AI cars to push him on a bit.

Most racing games should be a fairly safe bet I think, although some that feature a 'story' may not be suitable for young children (e.g. some of the Need for Speed series).

One thing to watch out for is there are a few different race modes in Grid2 that he may not understand straight away and could get frustrated. But all in all a fairly hassle free choice.

That would have been my assumption too, including the points raised with the need for speed series... I'm not sure what the realistic simulators would require for a higher rating?

The usual reasons for higher ratings for racing games are violence, implied violence and language.

Is sonic all star racing on the pc? played it on the x box and kids love it. Not sure if grid would be a bit hard for a 4 year old to be honest.

Sonic All Star is apparently a PEGI 7.

Having got Grid 2, I think the handling might be a bit hard to cope with. We'll see. I'm sure he'll like it at first but might get frustrated if he's not always winning.

Hmm can't really understand why it would be rated higher than grid 2 for, its Super marrio carts. . But sonic. Maybe you could test it your self and make the decision?

I looked it up. Sonic and All Stars was apparrently rated PEGI 7 due to depictions of violence.

Lol. I would really would take the PEGI ratings with a pinch of salt. Some of them seem fair while others make no sense at all

well if ya worried about violence and/or language being thrown in the face of your little one...I wouldn't worry, also done the career offline and done quite a bit of racing online too.... the only thing that would be cause for concern would be if he rammed me off the raod... then might have to deal with my rage over the voip xD but you can mute all anyway :p have fun! :D
