Grim Fandango probs

My wife's been wanting to play this game for ever and finally we got hold of a copy. It doesn't want to work on her PC tho. It starts OK, but then a couple of mins into the game there's graphics corruption all over the screen. It looks like a messed up video card, although the system is fine and only this game is a problem. Does it even run properly in XP and DirectX 9? Is there anything we can do? She's disappointed

Thanks for that - I'll give some of those a try. We already tried the latest patch and it made no difference.
