grinding coming from 5870

hi

my 5870 has a grinding sound coming from it on a cold/semi cold boot. if left idle/web browsing it will go away after about 5 mins and will be ok until i switch it off then leave it for about an hour. if i go straight into a game however, it will contiue to grind until i quit the game then it will stop, been happening for a few months, hasnt got a any better or worse, i cleaned it. didnt make a difference. time for rma? heard saphire rma is pretty dire. anyone had a ny experience with rma'ing 1 of there 5870s recently? what card did it get replaced with?
 
I had the same problem with my sapphire 5870. I believe it's the bearers holding the fan that's at fault with the card.

I RMA'd mine and it took 30 days to replace. Had to buy a 5770 as a temp back up card during that time.

In the end I believe OCUK replaced the card rather than waiting for Sapphire to get back to them with a replacement.
 
ah ok cheers. did you get them to replace it with a 6950 then? i rather fancy 1 of those twin frozr iiis but they dont seem to be in stock anywhere. i just kinda put up with it until now, as when grinding stops i can then game fine until i switch the pc off. but it is getting a bit annoying now and shouldnt be happening.

No I got a brand new 5870 in the end.

I think they still stock these so it's not likely your going to get a upgrade.
