grinding sound from mondeo?

hi

can anyone shed some light on what this could be

its coming from the left hand side of the engine , from what i can see there a belt that runs through 3 wheels

this is where the grinding sound is coming from..when idle the sound lasts about 1 second and comes back every 5 or so seconds.

Thats will be your drive belt. Had a friend with a simular problem a few weeks ago. The belt ended up snapping and broke his water pump. Try getting your hand down there and seeing if there is any play coming from each wheel.

Dont suppose you get more of a squeel than a grind?

Just take it down to local garage to get it checked out.

Is it knocking or grinding? I had kind of a knocking sound, Ford said it was wither the dmf or the aux belt tensioner, one listen and they confirmed the tensioner. There is a kit available (tensioner, idle pulley and belt), but mine was done under warranty.

its more of a griding noise

when the engine is off if you manually pull the belt towards you is makes the same noise(belt only moves a small amount)
