Basically whenever going over something with abit of depth such as speed bump, somewhere from the front of the car I get a grinding / grating sound. Initally I thought it was the shocks / springs but apparently "I would know about it" if they went. I can still feel a lot of cushioning from the suspension so im thinking its not that?

What else is there? bushes? any idea how much to buy / fix? and is it safe to drive?

There lots of people driving around with broken springs/knackered shocks who don't have a clue anything is wrong. A grating sound is unusual though, is it more like a creaking noise?
