Hi ,

recently started buiding a gaming pc and have the I win dragon slayer gaming case which is stocked on the site ...I have 6 raised points of which the mobo sits on and 2 points were I can screw in brass pins to screw the board into.

However when its in the case the psu see's that its not right and cuts off , but when I remove the mobo and sit it on a box it runs fine .

Any help or advice many thx

I doubt it, from what you say it sounds like something is shorting the output of the supply when it is in the case. Have you tried with the PSU in the case and the mobo out?

No I havent ..if that was to be the case , would it be the case thats the problem ?

I did change the psu and it was doing the same thing

Ok tried it with psu in the case and mobo out works fine ...so I put mobo in screwd down and still starts and cuts off like it did before ?

Then I suspect the case is shorting a supply rail through the motherboard. Is there any exposed metal (not the screwhole) on the underside of the motherboard that could be touching the case metal when installed?

No its on 6 raised points but a mate said the tray doesnt even look non conductive, have a new case comming this morning so will test it in that , mobo is fine as installed windows last night

The tray will be conductive, as it will be made from metal, like it is in 99% of PC cases. I meant around the raised areas. The only possible answer is that something on the board is shorting to the case.

What mobo and case?

It could even be a short inside the PSU, but I'd be worried if it was, as it would mean that the PSU case is not earthed. What PSU?

I tried inside the case and the mobo out and was fine , the case I was using is the i win dragon slayer case , mobo : MSI Z87M Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard
