I have an interview session at asda on tuesday consisting of

Some interesting team challenges
A short interview
A tour of the building
Insight into Asda and the roles we offer
A chance to “Have a Go”

Anyone got any pro-tips on this kind of thing?

Also
Do dress appropriately for the event, something smart but casual would be perfect (no trainers please). You want to make the right impression but obviously you’ll be getting involved on the shop floor so nothing too formal.

black jeans/white shirt/black shoes too formal? Or could I get away with white tshirt+ plain cotton jumper with the above (comfier)

Wear a boiler suit, some of those places are dirty as hell :)

Serisouly though, I'd say jumper over shirt would look best.

And good luck.

I work with a woman who went for one of these. Probably not the advice you were looking for but she had to make up a jingle about donuts and her group had to perform it in front of everyone else. Just so you can be prepared lol. She ended up walking out, told the interviewer "ram your job up your ***."

Seriously, I think I'd at least go with a shirt even if it is a casual one

I've had one of these before in my past student life with ASDA. Wear a shirt with jumper over the top (can be removed if hot etc) and proper trousers and shoes. Don't bother with a tie but looking better than everyone else there does help.

The group stuff is very much to see if your a social reject who can't manage to string two sentences together without offending someone or getting too shy. Make suggestions, listen to others and pay attention to the group interviewer.

Don't bother unless you're really desperate. If you're young try and get a job at a call centre or something a bit more refine that will give you better experience and useful skills that will look good on your CV.

Wow, I'm sure she's lovely.

Haha! She's actually really nice. Just felt that it was unfair to have to jump through these hoops when she has 30 odd years experience dealing with the public.

I see, she thought she was too good for them?

Come on! Asking to make up and sing a jingle is really really stupid considering the job.

My mother went to this, and they had to make a dress out of carrier bags. She enjoyed it, and said it was a good laugh. She didn't want the job though!

Problem is they end up with people who can act happy and enthusiastic rather than people who actually are...

Nobody is going to be genuinelly happy and enthusiastic about working at Asda, so people who can look like they are the next best thing.

but once they get the job they will look as mierable as everyone else working in a shop in this country

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm just gonna try be as enthusiastic and non-introverted as possible (not to the point where I talk too much, and its annoying :p).

They want happy and dynamic people, its the 'ethos' they are going for.

Something went seriously wrong at the Trafford Park branch then. Happy and dynamic are the least likely phrases to be used to describe the staff.
