I have got the hang of group policy and feel that i know it now.

I have run in to one slight problem.

I have a set up a server that some non admin users (domain users) will be rdp in to on some occasions. I have set up a login script to a registry change with group policy and disabled roaming profiles etc.

The problem is that for non domain admins the computer configuration group policy does not apply. The user configuration applies ok and when logging in with a domain admin user the computer configuration applies ok.

any ideas ? I think it might be a permissions issue but never ran in to this problem before.

Is it elements of the functions the computer policy is meant to do not happening or is the computer policy not even coming up in rsop?

run rsop.msc and run it against a domain user, see if the policy is applying and if it's giving you any errors. Also is the policy set to default or have you configured it to apply to specific users/groups?

I have done it all off the OU. I created a new computer OU and a new user OU and the new windows 7 pcs are moved in to this OU and the users are moved in to the new user ou.

Then i have group policy linked in both the user and computer OU. With authenticated users as the security filtering.

When I do a gpresult /R it comes up with user settings but no computer settings.

When i login in with a domain admin in to the same pc and run rpresult it comes up with both computer and user settings.
