Grow you own 2011 thread

Well I need to ask some advice so thought I would start this years thread. For discussion, pictures and the like.

Anyway just got some massive pots and want to grow some trees/bushes and want to ask which variety people would recomend, what fairly hardy and heavy choppers, but also good taste. I'm after
Cherry
Plumb
Blackberry
Goosberry
Crab apples
3xcider apple trees, 2 vintage varietys and 1 other.

Anyone got any ideas? And what's with the pollination groups?

Ribes 'Hinnonmaki Green' (Gooseberry Hinnonmaki Green)
£6.99/ea
Rubus fruticosus 'Loch Ness' (Blackberry Loch Ness)
£6.95/ea
Rheum x hybridum 'Timperley Early' (Rhubarb Timperley Early)
£6.95/ea
Prunus 'Farleigh Damson' (Farleigh Damson Tree) - B/R B 150-180cm 2yr SJA £19.99
£19.99/ea

Another vote for Real Seeds! You can get some unusual seeds from them too.

Oh wow thanks guys :), just ordered

AuBN (De Barbentane Aubergine)
* *: HPLD (Lemon Drop chilli pepper)
* *: CuPP (Parisian Pickling or Salad Cucumber)
* *: SWDO (Double Standard Sweetcorn)
* *: WMBM (Blacktail Mountain Watermelon)
*: TtDW (Dr Wyche's Yellow Tomatillo)

Pickled chillies and baby cucumber :) if I can keep the slugs away this year.

Also does anyone sale tree seeds rather than paying £20 odd for a 1 year old tree.

Now does anyone know anything about super cheap DIY green houses/polly tunnel.
I found polythene sheeting on eBay, would that be fine? And any ideas about cheap/free frame material. Got wood cutting stuff and metal cutting welding stuff. So not afraid of building, just very poor for the next three months.

I found curry the easiest, hardiest and most fruiting plant and stupidly easy to pollinate
http://www.chileseeds.co.uk/hot_chili_pepper_seed.htm about halfway down.

Then just compost, perlite and vermiculite in roughly a 3:1:1 ratio. Plenty of sunlight and warmth.
But curry seems to be very adaptable, unlike other chillies.
Also get chili focus

Can get equipment here

Also better of in the chilli thread

Rhubarb and blackberry potted up in 40 litre what ever they are.

What's the best sort of support for the blackberry? Is it going to fire shoots of in every which way?
Is a "wigwam" the best and train a shoot up each support?

Also put some runner beans and cauliflower in the germinator. Hat sort of support and size do runner beans need?

Well the stuff I put in the propagator died as went away with work for a week and they dried out. Planting done more today, getting late to plant stuff though. Hope I get some crops in.

Got some more on the go, put them in big pots in the conservatory, but away again this week. It's a nightmare, trying to keep things going. Still hopefully they'll survive in big pots, runner beans and sweetcorn are a good 4" tall know. Tge rest of the stuff are still small seedlings.

Wondering if anyone uses poly tunnels, greenhouses etc.
How do you find them what and how much do you grow in them. What's you plant and pick dates etc.
