tried everything to get 3.6 stable,400 x 9 = 3600 1.55v , 1.57v , 1.6v,also used x 8 multi and pc restarts within 2seconds of prime95,but idle temps are still under 40 with 1.6v.
Time to get a new chip or mobo i think :(

you are remembering to change the ratio of the memory down so it doesnt get OC'd in the process foo upping the FSB?

Sorry if this is patronising but this seems like the 100000th "why cant i clock to XXXGHz" thread ive read in the last 10 years.

then you wont mind reading this 1 will you . :)
ye ive been changing the memory so its as x2,@ 3.6 its running at 860

what about NB strap settings? they gave me a little hassle at first before settling for the one the bios recommended all along ;) my gigabyte has 3 sets of 1:1 ratio settings 266/333/400 fsb. the one for 400 (2.00D slowest ?) being the only one that was stable at 9x400

VID is 1.3000,where can i find the batch number ?

The batch number is on the box and on the chip.

Anyway my VID is higher than yours (1.3125v) and yet I can do 3.7ghz with 1.46v

I would say the problem lies elsewhere, either your memory or motherboard

The problem is else where, you need to increase the MCH voltage, see how that goes, run small FTT on prime to check for CPU faults, it shouldnt crash out instantly and alteast give you 10mins of stability, then build up from there.

it should not take 1.55v for 3.4ghz......if so then that's the worst clocking quad I have ever heard of.

ive tried MCH with +0.1 and +0.2 but both unstable,if i do 3.4 @ anything lower than 1.53v,prime restarts my system in 2seconds.
All voltages are correct,i took Cob's advice on voltages

There's not really any such thing as "correct" voltages, each chip is different, what works for one may not work for another.

Are we assuming this is G0 stepping?

If it is it shouldn't need 1.55 for 3400, I think it might be worth playing with the mobo voltages some more one at a time obviously to see if any particular one gives you even a few minutes stability, that would show whats causing the problems.

Also noob suggestion but you have set your PCI-Ex to 100MHz?

If you still have no luck it might be worth running memtest86+?

my idle V in cpu-z is 1.424,but when i run prime it drops to 1.360.anything i can do to prevent it dropping like that.
also my pci-e is set to 101,i could try 100.

Even an overclock to 3.4Ghz like it says on your sig is good , you are still getting 1Ghz overclock so why keep trying for 3.6 if it aint gunna go , you will only stress yourself out :p

btw , my Q6600 vid is 1.3250 and i can get my chip to 3.6Ghz no problem on my Asus Rampage Formula:D but on my old board with a 680i chipset it wouldn't go over 3.2Ghz
