Grr no spark

So the sun has been out in my area for the past few days now, but I can't enjoy it as my temperamental Italian (Aprilia Falco) is dead.

Bike cut out while cruising along at 60mph.

Now it seems there is no spark.

It turns over, albeit while making a ticking noise, but isn't producing a spark.

I've bypassed the side stand switch
Checked the emergency cut off
By passed the alarm, but still no luck
 
Does the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on? If not then it could be the ignition relay which should be under the seat (it is on the RSV anyway).
 
check the coils?
They might of got to hot while riding (very rare on a modern bike)
Also might be worth checking the leads to...

Could you not to if some one can lend you a coil pack?
I got a coil test in my work shop if you can't get help any where then send them to me.
 
Fuel pump primes, I can here it when turning the bike on.

The Falco uses two plugs per cylinder and 4 coils, can't imagine all of them failed at the same time.

Cam or Crank angle sensor is a possibility. Do you get a fault display ("EFI" appears on the display after you try to start it), and if so have you connected the diagnostic wires to read out the fault codes?
 
Diagnostics read "1"

Apparently that is just a misc error that shouldn't have anything to do with it not starting. That's according to Griff at Aprilia Performance.

Camshaft sensor would make sense in terms of no spark when starting. If it has one.

I'm pretty certain they do since fault code 11 is reserved for the cam sensor :)

Did you check the fault codes immediately after trying to start the bike, i.e. ignition on, crank for 4 seconds or so, leave ignition on and then join the diagnostic connectors?
 
Yeah actually.

I don't have any registered fault codes. Just "1", which doesn't really mean anything.

I'm going to systematically test all the sensors later today, but if any of them are faulty really it should display a double figure fault code.
