Well... I had an urge to spend money but I also wanted to be sensible so I opted to buy a second hand GTX 260 which arrived today.

I started looking for where to plug it in onto my motherboard and at first I was confused this is my first attempt at SLI! I couldn't find where the second card was supposed to go until I spotted the second PCI-E slot... Took me a while but in my defence it was dark and the slot is black lol :(

Anyway, when I eventually found where I could slot my gfx card into I then realised that the people who designed this motherboard clearly didn't intend to have it housing 2 x GTX 260s :(

The 4x SATA ports are right in the way of the fan and fan housing of the card :(

Are there some special super duper low profile SATA cables which can be connected without being so proud of the mobo or will I need a new mobo? lol :(

Doh :p

Sucks that you lose PCI slots too due to the large gfx cards lol :(

Guess its time for a new mobo!

Any suggestions? Need it to support my Q6600 and be compatible with DDR2 and DDR3 ideally since I'm still using DDR2 but will probably upgrade at some point. Also needs to do SLI! And plenty of SATA connectors is a bonus :P

You should still have the bottom PCI full free, so perhaps the best bet might be to grab a PCI SATA card (s/hand) and plug your drives into that.

I doubt very much that there is any 775 board that is DDR2 + DDR3 and SLI.

nvidia boards are either DDR2 or DDR3 not both im afraid.

For a quad you need a 750i/780i ( DDR2 ) or a 790i ( DDR3 ). From experience the 750i isnt geat for clocking quads, the 790i may be better.

Or flog both GTX260 cards and get a a single card like a GTX470

Nope theres none, but a PCI SATA cards a good idea :)

Yeah, I've only got 4 SATA ports at the moment so if I get a new mobo it would be nice to have a few more.

A SATA controller would be nice if my PCI slots aren't being wasted by mahoosive GFX cards lol :)

Id consider getting a SATA controller for this board but with 2 gfx cards in here that only leaves me with 1 PCI slot and thats for my sound card lol :(

Either that or I need some weird cooling for the gfx card which isnt almost 2" thick!

Or some crazy custom sata cables lol :'(

Had the side of my case today. As I said I've that mobo too. I'm pretty damn certain that even with a double slot card in the bottom pci-e x16 the bottom pci slot would still be free. You could still go the extra SATA card in there as suggested.

Yeah unfortunately a SATA controller wouldn't be possible cos there are no available PCI slots lol :/

Well the good news is that I managed to find some different SATA cables I had lying around that had slightly shorter SATA plugs. Unfortunately I was one short so I had to cut away at some of the plastic so that it would bend over more lol

Now the gfx card is in there and wedged against the SATA cables :E

Why? The very bottom PCI would not be obstructed by the second gcard. There's another PCI slot between that and the PCI-e slot. I'm baffled. I can't see why you can't use a SATA controller in the bottom slot. Are you already using that PCI for a sound card or fax or something?

Anyway glad you found a solution.:D
