Everytime I reinstall windows XP Professional, I plug in my USB devices and hub after shoving on SP2.

I keep getting an error saying that "This device would run faster if connected to a USB 2 port". The trouble is - my Asus M2N-E motherboard has USB 2 ports and I know that all my peripherals are compatible (I've checked on different machines). I can't for some reason use the ports and devices at their full speed.

*I have tried reinstalling SP2, finding the individual file (I believe this to be usbhub20.sys) and manually pointing the upgrade drivers wizard to it, but nothing seems to recognise it.

*Also I have looked on Asus website for USB updates but those, and the info provided on their CD says just to update to SP2. It doesn't provide me with any other files.

Thus I am at a complete loss as to what to do? :( :(

Spend a fiver on a pci usb 2.0 card and save your sanity.

I can't do that - the problem seems to affect all of my machine's USB ports - the 4 physically on the motherboard itself near e.g. the ethernet socket, and the other 4 I have connected to the USB1 and USB2 7/8 pin plugs on the board itself.

Grr...this is so ffing annoying :(

Are you always using the same usb lead to your hub? Is it possible it's not usb 2.0 compliant ie doesn't have adequate shiedling? Do you have a device that will connect directly to the ports like an mp3 player, usb pen drive?

Excellent question...I'll try and fiddle around with some cables now..

in the mean time does anybody have any other possibilities? :)

Nope all the cables are USB2. But I don't think this to be the problem - as said the devices that are causing me problems e.g. the hub, usb drives and music players have all been plugged into a different machine.
