Dont you just hate it....i got a nice new WD 500Gb HDD and its dead on arrival! Its doesnt even spin up and no joy on cables that work for existing hardware. Now I shall have to wait days for a replacement after paying for next day delivery...the average consumer again royaly *****d. I should have got it through work where they guarantee 24hr replacement on business products.

Ah well, thats my rant over :)

Hey i just got it working! It turns out that my Mobo has an early generation SATA controller that cant handle SATAII :)

On WD troubleshooting it says that I can put a jumper on the drive wit hwill make it work at sata speeds (150)...

So...with lack of jumpers (all my drives are sata and done as standard come with jumpers) and a bit of thought I came up with a resolution. Aluminium foil :D

Of course not a perminant solution. It will do until tomorrow when I can het a spare jumper from work.

But never such a moment to make me realise its about time for an upgrade when my mobo cant handle SATAII. Time to start thinking about a replacement...but that might wait till there are some DX10 cards on the market ;)
