GS700 PSU loud fan fix?

I have one of these and must admit I've not used it much to have noticed, but the fan seems to louder than it should be.

I think I got it back in 2011 so guess out of warranty.

If I try the paperclip test, the fan spins up - should it not be quiet until it reaches a certain temperature?

Has there been a fix to the fan controller?

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

It never had a hybrid fan and it was on all of the time but controlled according to the temperature. If it's suddenly gotten noisy the fan may be on the way out.

What exactly does it sound like? Is the fan ramping up faster to compensate for worse temps (e.g. dust), or is it a bearing noise? It's possible the ball bearings might be wearing prematurely

Thanks both for your replies.

I don't think it's dust as it's not had much use and it does not increase speed. I think it is likely to be bearings.

As it's out of warranty, I might open it up and drop some WD40 onto the fan - what do you guys think?

I probably won't be able to sell it and if I do, probably not for much?
