Hi

The Netgear GS748TP switch has 384w of poe available. Is this split euqally between each port eg. 8w per port or can some ports use more and some less?

Normally it's a "budget" and delivered on a first-come, first-served basis. So you could run out of power before you run out ports. If devices can tell the switch they need a lower power (802.3af supports 3 or 4 type of class), the budget can go further.

Per the manual it's a maximum of 15.4W per port at the highest PoE class (class 3 or undefined), so in theory you could run out of power budget with only 25 Ports.

GS700TP Manual said:
Class – Displays the classification of the powered device. The class defines the maximum
power that can be provided to the powered device. The possible field values are:
– Class 0 – The maximum power level at the Power Sourcing Equipment is 15.4 Watts.
– Class 1 – The maximum power level at the Power Sourcing Equipment is 4.0 Watts.
– Class 2 – The maximum power level at the Power Sourcing Equipment is 7.0 Watts.
– Class 3 – The maximum power level at the Power Sourcing Equipment is 15.4 Watts.
– Class 4 – Treated as Class 0
