My 1GB (2x512) of Gskill PC4800 has died, so will be RMA'd hopefully. In the meantime I'm not quite sure which way to fall.

System specs...

DFI NF4 Ultra-D
3700 SD @ 2500Mhz
1Gb Gskill running 1:1 (so also at 250)
XP Pro

Now, do I get 2 gigs of possibly slower ram and stick with that or whack a cheapy 1 gig set in until the RMA returns?

Basically I'm guessing that 2 gigs ram, even with slower timings would give better performance than 1 gig of faster ram. Is that correct?

Mainly used for web browsing, a little video conversion and gaming.

Cheers all.

1gb of ram with lower latency timings will out perform 2gigs

alltho 2gigs will be better when you have a lot of applications open that demand memory.

i ordered 2gb of corsair cas2 and they couldnt handle low latencys like these two 512 sticks im using now lol. my 3 year old 512 sticks out performed them. and i dont need a lot of memory so i sent my corsair back and saved 200 pounds.

but anyway lol yeh

If any of your games use over 1GB of memory then you'll see a bigger benefit in getting 2GB of RAM.

Hmmnnn, DoD 1.3 is what I play mainly, but the last 2 games I got were CoH and NFS Carbon. CoH was a little slow to load at times but ran well enough.

Guess I'll go for the cheapy option then.
