I bought some of this about 2 weeks ago:
G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) CAS3 Dual Channel Kit (F1-4000USU2-2GBHZ) (MY-008-GS)
It was rock stable at 260Mhz 1:1 (No divider) 2.5V along with a Opteron 170 @ 2.6Ghz 1.5V. By "rock stable" I mean it would pass Memtest86 for hours, along with dual SuperPI 32M, and dual Prime95 "blend" overnight (8 hours).
Last night whilst playing Quake4, it crashed a few times with access violations. Seemed a little strange, so I ran dual SuperPI 32M a couple of times with no problems. Ran prime95 and it failed within 4 minutes
Dropped the CPU multiplier from 10x to 7x so the CPU is underclocked (1.8Ghz instead of default 2Ghz), and Prime95 still fails.
Dropped the FSB from 260Mhz to 230Mhz. Same result.
Dropped FSB again to 200Mhz. Runs prime95 for hours. Not tried speeds between 201 and 229, but for the purposes of the test, I think these are irrelevent (ie. 230Mhz is under advertised speed and still fails).
Memory timings are the default 3-4-4-8.
So, where do I go from here? I'd imagine this should be classed as faulty, as it seems that it's incapable of it's advertised speed now. Do I return it to OcUK, or GSKill?
Do GSkill do advanced RMA? I really can't do without the PC for a week as I'm working from home a lot at the moment, so it's required every day.
