Anyone any concrete info, or even a decent rumour about any upcoming new monitor releases that feature IPS or VA panels with Gsync??? (Edit - 2560 x 1440 minimum)

We've got Gsync coming soon in a 4k monitor but it's TN - at 60hz. So if it's only 60hz, it's not a 'dedicated gaming' screen, so why not release some IPS or VA versions? They'd be a bit more expensive than TN, but I'd pay it!

The TN releases only situation continues to baffle me.

Well, haven't paid that much attention to the whole G-sync situation, but if they want to maximize profits, then they'll probably first milk the market with the TN panels. Once that stream grows dry, they'll switch to IPS/VA, to give a little after-spike to sales.

The problem with this scenario, though, is that G-sync is nVidia's technology. They don't manufacture their own panels. So not sure who ultimately makes the decisions as to which panel types the technology will go into.

i'm confused.

you imply that 60hz makes it a non dedicated gaming screen, but then by that thought process, you could say any IPS doesn't make a dedicated gaming screen either because of the slower response times.

4k TN is a big difference from the 1080p standard screens and by user reports on the swift (it could just be people thrilled with a new toy) the panel is actually very good with excellent colour reproduction for a TN.

Going from so called gaming screens like the benq xl2411t to the xl2720t then to a qinx ips - I enjoy the qinx a whole lot more and the xl27 is just gathering dust, now if I still played competitive twitchy shooters for a serious team then the qinx wouldn't be optimal.

Right now the swift is the only option for 1400p g sync with nothing else even at rumour stage as far as I know

I think he is implying that if it's only going to be 60Hz then it may as well be IPS. Because at that refresh rate there is no need for faster response times than modern IPS models can provide. Indeed these 28" 4K TN panels are far from blazing fast in practice, you definitely need to look beyond the misleading specs.

It just makes me laugh how often I see something written off without any first hand experience.

Either way response times is always mentioned but I doubt it would affect the majority.

This, in a nutshell yes.

I'm not one of those obsessed with response times. I don't play online shooters much so it's not a big deal to me.

I have used an Eizo Foris 2421 for a few weeks recently. That's a VA panel, and for all it's supposed greatness I didn't like it half as much as my overclocked to 75hz Dell u2913wm superwide as an all round experience, including gaming.
I haven't used a TN screen recently I admit, but the wide consensus is they are still way behind for the things that matter most, to me, i.e. image quality, clarity and colour reproduction.

I'm basically holding out for a 3440 x 1440 superwide IPS, that overclocks a bit, and has GSync. Not sure it's ever going to happen...
