Hi

I have a gtx 1070 and want to upgrade my monitor. Just wondering is g sync worth it or should i go with something cheaper?

Im limited to a width maximum of 24inches.

I've gamed with several generations of top end GPU config (7970 XFire --> 980Ti SLI --> 1080Ti) and only recently have I had the chance to buy a PG348Q (been gaming on a U2414H --> U2715H --> U3415W before then) to have a taste of Gsync.

What I should put is, Gsync is definitely noticeable, but whether it is worth it, that is highly subjective.

Personally, if you are comfortable with trading in your hardwares should you have to switch team then it's more likely to be worth it for you in the long term.

Or if you're a die hard green fan and will remain with NV no matter what the next gen GPU will bring, then Gsync will more likely to be worth it.

If neither of the above is true for yourself, then I'd say you should go to a store and see for yourself before committing to buy, because I can live without Gsync but I couldn't answer on anyone else's behalf.

Very good post. Having used G-Sync first time myself yesterday, I completely agree with what you said.

If you plan to 'lock in' to Nvidia cards for the next few generations it's definitely worth a upgrade to get G-Sync.

You liking the AOC? Smoooooooth?

Gsync is great imo, but only because nVidia controlled it all from the get-go and made sure the low fps were catered properly for. This is something AMD is fixing in the new Freesync 2 monitors I think :)

I've always had good experiences with Gsync (for the most part, had an issue with 1080 SLi and crashing with one game. But looking back it was probably an overlay issue). For me, a single powerful card + Gsync over SLi anyday!!

Yea. There is definitely an improvement. I do like that with g-sync as you have to have v-sync on in the Nvidia control panel it caps it automatically at 60fps. I am happy with 60 fps which is plenty smooth for me and games just lock and stay there with no penalty of v-sync. Tried some older games and my 1080s fan does not even turn on to pump out 4K at 60fps :D

Saying that though, I could easily go back to my dell monitor if needed. Need to do testing to see how the rest of the monitor measures up to my dell and decide :)

Played Prey on it for a while and ever time I looked the counter was displaying a rock solid 60fps.

Nice one @TNA . Tell me, are you finding 60fps w/Gsync smoother than a 'normal' monitor? I did, felt more like 70-75 to me but I'm just wondering if my mind was just making **** up :D

Yeah, maybe. Don't know really as I don't pay much help attention to that stuff. As long a game does not stutter and not slow I am usually happy :)
I don't want to get into that stuff where I pay too much attention to fps. Smooth is smooth that's it :)

But g-sync definitely did make it a bit better I can say that :D

I found a B-list predator XB270HU on the site for only £360 so snapped it up!

Looking forward to trying G-sync out... I'm still quite torn about trying to go up to 4K gaming if realistically I'm stuck with 60 fps, but I think since I enjoy some shooters like overwatch the ability to go up to 144hz is something I can't let go. So for now just upgrading to 1440p (from 1080p).

I'm sure it will still look great.

Yeah, like everyone else I will just wait a bit longer for the next gen of graphics cards and monitors so I can get 4K 144hz.... but by then no doubt we will have something else to drool over!

For now I think I will be happy :)
