I am pretty sure that it can't happen, but I dont know much about SLI, so wait till someone that has SLI comes along to confirm/deny this post.
 
no. It has to be the same card as in model but the amount of ram can vary and still be paired.

e.g. an 8800gts 320 can be paired with 8800gts 640 BUT a 8800gts can not be paired with the 8800gtx

I thought as much. Reminds me of how SLI used to work back in the days of Voodoo 2, where 8MB cards and 12MB cards used to be SLI'ed, and people wondered what happened to their extra 4MB :D
