I am new so hello to you all.
Has anyone ever come across this problem before?
After the recent failure of my 8800GT a friend lent me a 8600GT which works with no problems .As it was just a loaner i decided to buy a Zotac Gt220 which seemed to have everything i needed to run my HTPC (no Gaming). All was fine for 2 days then one evening while listening to a CD on my PC I wanted to look at something on the web ,i clicked on my browser to be met a horrorendous noise from the speakers the music then stopped and W7 reported that the Nvidia Drivers had stopped working and once i shut down the CD player they then recovered.
I took the GT220 back to the shop and they tested it with no problems found but agreed to swap it ,as they had no more in stock i took a GT240 instead . I clean installed the new GPU and it has the very same problem,in short if i try to run any 2 applications (eg play a CD & browse the web) the sound (not Picture) breaks up (digital hash) and eventually stops untill one the apps is closed.
I have contacted Zotac and they say this sort of thing should only happen in game play and not when the system is under no stress.
I did wonder if this had anything to do with the GT2xx HD audio drivers ,i do not need audio from the GT2xx as the sound is processed with my X-FI (analoge out to a power amp).
Re-installing the 8600GT (loaner) and I once again have no problems at all.
Sorry my first post is a bit long winded but didnt know how else to describe this problem.
Any help would be very much appreciated as i have to decide whether to take the GT240 back for a re-fund.
regards
Andy
