GT430 DVI Port - audio question

Hi again,

Just posted about another issue, but figured more relevant to keep this question seperate.

After having much frustration and lack of luck in trying to get my new Radeon 6450 working properly, I'm thinking of getting a low profile GT430 card instead

Could I please ask, the DVI port, does that automatically have the information to carry audio across it? I'm guessing I would need to buy an adapter to turn it into a 2nd hdmi port, but only adapters I've seen reference to are for AMDs....so wondering if these nvidia cards work differently?

Reason being I need to get audio outputted to a 2nd cable to send to my 1.3 AVR.

According to http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=21122837#post21122837 the nvidia is better at this for dual audio output (though I only need the non3d one - doesn't matter about the 3d port as AVR would always be on)

DVI cant do audio no matter what anyone says, HDMI however can.

Iv seen HDMI> DVI adapters that basicly split the audio and video but from what people have said the audio is low quality. your link does not say that a the gt430 supports audio through DVI. What its saying is you need DVI and HDMI to have 3d along with audio to the monitor/tv. Basicly 2 cables running from the card to the tv/monitor.

sorry, but to confirm it, you can - AMD even have their own adapter which sends audio through some of their card ranges.....no need to connect extra wires/spdif, catalyst software even pops up with a message telling you this when connect a regular dvi cable/adapter into it. however I can only find ebay selling the adapter in the UK. Mainly the lower end cards for HTPCs that send audio, higher end cards dont seem to do it as standard, as I guess in most cases it wouldn't be needed/expected

CAA-DMD>HFD3 - Club 3D DVI to HDMI converter allows you to transfer both video and audio. For ATI Radeon 3000 - 4000 - 5000 - 6000 series graphics cards this convertor has built in HD audio decoding with 7.1 support.

its technically out-of-spec dvi, but it does it. I believe GT430 cards are exactly the same in that regards too,

right - results are in

GT 430 delivered yesterday

Through DVI port, no problem whatsoever getting DTS HD-MA audio bitstreamed out to the AVR (or choices of regular audio to tv etc)

That was with a standard dvi - hdmi cable, no special connectors needed
