Well, i wernt my GFX card afterall, as i thought it was that that was causing the problems. Was a HD5450.

Installed my new flashed 6950 and got the same problem, no matter what settings its on. I doubt its my cpu, AMD X4 955 BE, 4GB ram. From what ive read it seems it was an issue when the game first came out. Its like it just keeps freezing up for half a second every couple of seconds, rather annoying and unplayable.

Come someone point me in the direction of a patch as ive been told that that might be the problem, ive had a little look around but cant find one.

It's a ATI thing. If you lock the fps to 30 the weird stutter seems to go away. The only real fix is to go nvidia :(

Or not play the game. :D plenty of other games out there ive not played, ive got shed loads, been out of touch for a few years, i just like the GTA series. :(

Seems to run on my mates pc ok and his running a 5870.

Cheers anyway, i will look into patch 7 and google that mem restrict

You make it sound like the 6950 can't have the same problem as the 5450.

Cheers Si105, patch 7 worked a treat and the game runs sweet as now.

One last thing, anyone know of a good no DVD crack out there which runs with patch 7? i tried the razor one to no avail, game wont boot up. My mate wants the game back now so he can play it. :( Asswipe, his had it a year or so and when it comes round to me been able to play it, he wants it back.

We dont talk about cracks around here, sorry but im sure google will find it for you :)

Did have a google, couldnt find any that worked with patch 7. No worries, maybe i should take a look at the rules. ;)

I will see if i can get one to work on my mates pc as his not installed any patches, then i can keep his discs. :D

I'm pretty sure SecuROM have their own no-DVD exe/launcher that you can get if you email them (could probably get it elsewhere if you search, though). And, of course, it would be 100% legal.

Yeah I get a lot of people complaining about their frame rate in GTA4.

Not sure if it is actually because it is ATI? Sounds slightly biased.
