Woooah, this game spikes a LOT

just upgraded as it was really bad, from an i5 6600K to an AMD 3600
both with 5700XT Red Devil GPU

its a bit better, benchmarks runs smooth most of the way through, when i play the game when your running from the cops outside the building its unplayable again

running it on 1080, normal or OFF details, Direct X 11, 60 HZ

not sure what i can do ?

weird! After the 4 hours needed to actually load up, it should beast that game as it's soo well optimised. Are other games ok? Have you got any overclocks causing issues potentially?

One of those games which will for the most part, ignore multiple cores (more than two) so in this instance, although the core speed is faster on the AMD, the game prefers Intel in my opinion.

I run 60fps on a 4700K and there are drops (especially in multiplayer) but single player runs a lot better but even then, the game also loves RAM, more of it and faster the better.

The game is running on a 2013 release engine, and although the PC release was 2015 with some optimisations, it is still not a prime example of what a PC game should be.

I never got GTA IV to run right on multiple builds - LOLs

Havent tried running recently but had played it previously on a lesser capable system with a mid spec gpu and quite under the spec compared to yours OP without any spikes or problems.

well, my Computer is a new build, ive just installed windows, installed all drivers etc, put on gta 5, got it to full screen mode, 1080, default settings (which is either OFF or normal and wont go any lower)

the only thing i have done is enabled XMP in the bios, nothing else, its all default
could it be my bios is not set up correctly ?
it's picking it up as a 3000 speed RAM with XMP on and a 3600 CPU @ 4.2

Before venturing down that road, have you tried other games?

GTA 5 is very CPU intensive game. Maybe your Windows is still doing stuff in background (indexing files etc). You could lower population density and variety to ease CPU workload.

I have a issue where if i drive fast late game from a car the black dude has next to the green bike. On the big open roads in the city i get missing textures. To fix it tho only thing that works is bumping the process priority to above average in task manager/details section.

Could try that see if it helps with ur performance?

ill try it again today in a sec

ive installed a few more games

Deus Ex Mankind divided is running smooth, 1080, 144HZ, "Very High" detail

just ran the benchmark again

seems to be around 187 fps and smooth, bar those key points, and it never gives me the benchmark results ?

seems odd its smooth, but when there a little more going on its jerky like mad

Check the Advanced Graphics settings and make sure Extended Distance Scaling isn’t maxed out, that cripples performance on even the best CPUs and I’d recommend just leaving on its lowest setting.

Other settings I’d reduce is Grass Quality and MSAA, Ultra Grass Quality is very heavy on the GPU and MSAA I’d leave off entirely. You should be able to max out every other setting at 1080p with that card however.

had a look

MSAA if off, all distance and all setting are at minimal settings

the one thing i did notice is the Soft Shadows, its on "sharp"
should i change this ?

Forza Horizon 4 runs so much better than my i5 6600K

i can now run this game smoothly at 1080, ULTRA settings @ 144 HZ

its defiantly GTA 5 that's the problem

idk.. my rtx 2080 @4k runs it at 60fps fine with very few settings dialed in. really not that challenging of a game to play unless u mod it.

from memory

GRASS is a very big performance changer turn it down to medium or off :)

Doesn't (didn't?) GTA V have an game engine problem that causes stutter when it hits high FPS rates (~180ish). Don't know if was ever fixed but have you tried capping the FPS to something lower?
