OcUk can you advise please :o

Ive been on GTAIV patched to 1.4, games runnin nice and smooth. But cant help noticing Patch 1.7

Is there any benefit to that one? Or does it break mods and cause other kinds of mayhem? I get v mixed messages so thats why Im on here, hope to hear from the GTAIV gamers...

Does 1.7 give more options or something? More control over the game?

Or should I just not mess with something thats not broken?

Thanks :)

1.4 was the first patch to give decent performance AFAIK. Anything before and performance was fairly shoddy (I tested 1.3 out because a mod I wanted to try didn't work on 1.4).

I don't think the difference between 1.4 and 1.7 will be that noticeable, so if you've got a bunch of mods that you know for sure won't work on anything later, just stick with the version you're currently playing. I also don't recall later versions having many new options, if any.

I think the latest patch increases performance but at the loss of the mods not working unless thats changed now. So for me it was a choice of performance or mods, and went with mods tho i dont have a lot because i lost interest in the game shortly after the reinstall to 1.4 lol to try the san andreas map mod.

Patch v1.0.4.0 is more system friendly fps wise, especially with older gen gfx cards.

Most decent mods now work fine with v1.0.7.0 and EFLC v1.1.2.0, with powerful current gen setup you should not have any problems running v1.0.7.0 smoothly.

Hmm thats interesting m8, thanks. I have imaged my HD and Im gonna clone it once I get another internal HD. Maybe after that I can experiment with 1.7

But yea for now 1.4 is staying, game is running really well and looks awesome thanks to ENB.

ICenhancer still doesnt, although the next version should work with 1.7

Which is best to play, for mods etc, the Steam version or the Retail version?

I have the Retail version at my mum's house somewhere, I fancy playing through this with graphical mods. Should I drive to hers and find my Retail one?

I've got GTA on Steam and i've not played it yet. Looking at this thread it seems that 0.4 is the way to go but can I down patch as i'm assuming Steam will just auto update to the newest version.

Steam will install the latest version.

You can downgrade, there was a series of steps setup to take you back to 1.0.4, but it sounds like many mods will now work with the latest version so there is no need.

I have steam GTA IV which I've not played yet, downloading a few mods to try out and see how it goes. iCEnhancer20N, a few texture ones, and some nice cars ;) Just need to find some space to backup the game first, my HD seems to fill up too easy :( I picked up that better city textures mod too which is over 7gb
