Hi Guys

Specs as follows:

MSI MPOWER Z77
Ivybridge 3570K @ 4.6GHZ
16GB RAM (Kingston Hyper X Genesis 1666mhz)
120GB OCZ AGILITY 3
3TB HITACHI DECKSTAR
2 X Gigabyte WF 7950 3GB in Crossfire Mode (1000mhz/1500mem)

Basically, using ENB series LB mod with everything maxxed and a car pack, and VIVA NEW YORK MOD I tend to get round about 15 fps in some cases!, now if I turn shadows off this jumps up but its still not great, now I know GTA 4 is a port and not optimised particularly great but surely should be getting better than this? I just want to have a good tweaked game with a decent fps then I will be happy

Any tips/ideas

I'd try it without mods and then progressively add them until you hit a wall.
Also in my experience the two draw/detail distance settings have a big impact on framerate.

I have never been able to run GTA, on any of my computers

This includes a phenom II GTX260 combo, a 7870 and i3 combo and an i5 and 7950 combo.

I wil never go back to it again lol, even the PS3 had fps issues with it.

Ps3 is woefully underpowered to run the game as was the xbox comparing it to the PC. I ran it on a Q9550@ 4ghz and a 4870 and it ran ok. Then i switched to a 2600k @ 4.7ghz and a 6970 and it ran fine. Seems to be one of those games that it doesnt matter what your spec is, it sometimes runs well and others like crap.

With Radeon Pro I've made a new profile for the game and checked the boxes for Aero disabled and high CPU priority. Made a big difference in smoothness although at FPS perhaps not so much. Shadows were a big killer (in ran perfectly with them disabled) and without the "fix" from above, they give horrible sututter at times, but with that, it's quite ok maxed out.

From another thread.

Working great on my machine - i5@4ghz, 8gb ram, GTX670

Get the 1.0.7.0 patch, HD Road textures, ENBbyVuckov4.5 and trees_textures_mod_vanni83_v1_2...

I tried a car pack but had problems with sirens, taxis etc

The amount of detail in the game is outstanding to say you can go into restaurants, subways, houses...

Just my personnel experience with this game and list of graphics cards tried with it via my current system >

GTX280 = ave was over 25fps
GTX470 = ave was over 35fps
GTX580 = ave was over 50fps
GTX670 = fine after messing with GTAIV config text files, solid 60+ fps

Only tried two ATi cards, fresh Win7 64 instal >

7870 = No amount of GTAIV config text files messing or drivers could pull decent fps
7950 = ave was over 35fps, yet suffered from constant stuttering :confused:

Poorly optimised console port yes, but also just seems to hate ATi Drivers for whatever reason. :(

That makes sense, when I tried it with crossfire gta threw a hissy fit. I only loaded it once then played something else.

Yeah, everyone I've spoken to with SLI/Xfire have had issues in GTA IV with it enabled.

Indeed, Nvidia have always had AMD over a barrel when it comes to GTA IV, a few AMD users have decent performance (like myself in the past) but it's pretty much just pot luck.

These settings and the mods above yield about 40fps and 30fps in heavy action.

I really hope GTA5 is a PS4, PC only title. If not then I cant see it being any better (probably end up worse) than GTA4 with a mod or two

No issue here on Max settings @1080p frame rate nevers drops below 40fps and even still feels like 60fps.
