GTA IV Horrible performance

2gb ram
sapphire hd 5850 1gb
530w psu

even when i put everything on low i dont get over 30 fps, i patched to 1.0.7, is the game that badly optimised, this is the first game (CSS,DoD, Deus EX HR, Crysis 2, BFBC2, etc etc..) that i cant run maxed out..........i have read about a lot of performance problems is it that badly optimised.....

Overclocking your CPU would be the best place to start. That game is very CPU hungy. In terms of the GPU, faster cards dont seem to give a huge improvement IE a £250 isn't going to run it perfect. VRAM seems to me more limiting than power.

No cry baby it runs just as poor on the consoles. Look how much is going on in the game! Your PC is hardly cutting edge either.

ive completed it on 360 and it runs absolutely fine on that...............its just a terrible port............and my pc is fine.

What os are you running? if anything other than xp than 2gb ram is probably holding you back.

Make sure you've updated you're GTA. There was an issue with stuttering etc that got fixed. If that doesn't fix it then you're computer just can't handle it.

1.0.3, but just noticed you said you updated to 1.0.7 in your OP so that's not the issue. Just a case of your computer not being able to handle it. Search for some GTA IV mods, there might be a few out there that help slower systems run the game better.

no its not that my computer can handle every other game out there, crysis, crysis 2, bfbc2 all better looking games than GTA IV, the game is just horribly horribly coded making it to cpu intensive.

Thus making it not able to handle it

But yeah, not much you can do about it, unless you find mods or up your system in some manner then.

ye me not being able to run is it down to it being a poorly coded piece of dogshite

will uninstall this and carry on playing the rest of my games maxed out instead

Overclock your CPU, not for GTA, but because its the sane thing to do.

GTAIV isn't the best port, but it runs fine and looks better than the 360/PS3 version if you have a good clock on your CPU. Your CPU is even clocked slower than the consoles, so why are you complaining it doesn't run well? The game is extremely CPU intensive, so don't go thinking because you have a decent CPU that GTA, or any other game, will run well.

i will overclock soon

but EVERY other game runs better, i run every game on my computer maxed out BFBC2, CSS, L4D, Crysis 2, crysis etc

It will feel much more responsive, especially in BFBC2 as it loves the CPU as well.

GTA IV actually runs terribly on consoles as well as looking crap (you just have nothing better to compare it against - I was the same). It can also barely maintain 30fps. I once owned it myself and my girlfriend also owns it (different copy and different Xbox). Seriously, it is horrendous compared to PC.

But as others have said, it loves fast quads and plenty of VRAM.

I can max out every game at 2560 1600 and get silky smooth frame rates, but this.

Runs terrible still for me relatively, when u take into account my rig.

I5 2500k @ 4.2 ghz, 8gig ram, 6970 2gbCrossfire , though crossfire has got to be disabled.

its a poorly coded piece of tripe. absolutely terrible effort by rockstar when they put this out on pc.
