GTA IV Lagging?

GTA IV is lagging on my PC, is there something I'm missing, does it need updating or something?
Specs;
i5-2500
gtx 560
8gb 1600
Every other games is fine

Patched to the latest version?
Although it is a horrifically optimised game it does need a bit of power to max out but your system should should be fine..

How do I do that?
I'm not lagging anymore, just getting lots of lag spikes every 2 seconds. During cutscenes etc it's absolutely fine and during benchmark :S

High, which is perfectly capable on a 560. I think it might just be the fact that I'm at the start of the game and everything is rendering.

It's just an awful game for PC hardware. It will play smooth on some hardware with some tweaks but no guarantee. It plays smooth for me on a 570, but I still get the odd lag. Also a real chore to install if you don't have the steam version.

I've uinstalled mine finally after years of waiting to get the 'right' hardware to play it smooth and in the end I felt it wasn't worth it.

Hopefully some people here will know what stuff to do to make the game run smoother. It's been a while since I've done any tweaking.

I don't understand this? Put disc one in and click install. Put disc 2 in when asked. Update and play?

PC version is the best version though. Smooth as silk on my rig in specs

You don't understand what? All the issues surrounding GFWL? Have a read on the GTA forums for GTA IV and tell me there aren't people having install issues. They do exist.

As for performance, like I said before it will play smooth on some hardware and not on others, despite great hardware.

Yor not alone I like to think I run a high end system with an overclocked 6970 and a 2600k at 4ghz and it still lags in gta at 1900x1080

I've now installed the latest patch and now I can't get on the game at all, I log into social club and nothing happens

Anything that uses GFWL is a faff to install.

Just uninstalled and re-installed, and just to clarify it happens on lowest settings aswell.

Thats what I rememeber as well, last patch even tells you social club is no longer needed when its installed if I remember.
